## Work

I’ve been working at [Versiro](https://versiro.com) since September 2024. I’m building customer-facing dashboards with a heavy focus on data visualization. Technologies used are TypeScript, React, and Python.

## Hobbies

I started learning Japanese in April 2024. Right now, I know 712 kanji (meanings and readings), and I’m on level 21 of WaniKani. Speaking is my weak point :( whenever I talk to a Japanese person I turn into a stuttering mess. I use [WaniKani](https://www.wanikani.com/) for kanji acquisition, and I try to immerse by watching anime and reading [Tadoku](https://tadoku.org/japanese/en/free-books-en/) books. After a six-month break, I’m back in classes at the [University of Amsterdam](https://www.uvatalen.nl/japans).

I go to the gym for strength training three times a week.

I got into journaling last year. I have a traveler’s notebook and a Hobonichi. It’s hard not to spend all my money on washi tape, stickers, and new fineliners.

## Trips

I went to Japan this year and hiked the [Kumano Kodo!](https://www.tb-kumano.jp/en/kumano-kodo/) Next year, I’m going to Indonesia (this one is actually happening), and I’m planning\* to go back to Japan.

_\*I set up Google Flights alert and watched a bunch of TikToks_

## Logging

I’m still logging everything I read and watch at [what.pm](https://www.what.pm/). So far in 2026, I’ve read 52 books, watched 32 movies, and 19 TV show seasons. You can also see the live numbers on the [home page](https://nienke.dev/).

In 2025, I read 69 books, watched 34 movies, and 12 TV show seasons. My top favorite books from that year, in no particular order:

## This website

I redesigned this website (again)! It’s still built with Astro, but I said goodbye to Sanity: all the content now lives right in the codebase. The stats on the home page come straight from what.pm, WaniKani and Last.fm.
